September Comp Results!!!
It was a day of wind, it was a day of sun, it was a day of frustrations. The September comp rolled into Tama, with a small but keen turnout. The hangover crew got stuck on a bender, but alas, some good clean early entertainment was provided by a slightly intoxicated kite flyer.
The small waves proved for some fierce competition from the outset, with the A's showing that they had what it takes to match it with the older guys in the conditions. Nate was the one to beat from the first minute, and some good consistent riding got him over the line for his first win. He was closely shadowed by Darby and Reuben who are both in contention the take the title at the presso night in November.
For the AA's it was always going to be difficult with the small conditions and a ever growing flock of ignorant standups who were more than happy to hassle and burn the competitors despite the fact that we were clearly in a competition. The usual mouthing off proceeded. Can you imagine the outrage if bodyboarders were to enter a surfing competition area? WW3 perhaps? Makes me laugh. Maybe we should not be so tolerant next time. Zac was absolutely ripping throwing out floaters and flips off every section possible. Phinn was also again shredding, but it was Lee Kelly who showed some serious experience and patience in the conditions. Lee managed the overcome the younger nimbler prodigy's performing a solid floater-reverse on the final wave of the flag to grasp the comp from his unsuspecting fellow competitors.
We have 2 more comps this year, and everyone who turns out on time will get 20 points towards the final Tally. It was disappointing to see guys like Sam turn up late and now be able to compete because the heats had been drawn up and were already in the water. See you all on the 1st of October..its getting warmer, so no excuses!

I've been busy and travelling alot lately for both business and pleasure. I was lucky enough to travel to NZ for 3 weeks for some surf and snowboarding and had an amazing time. Definately the most beautiful country I have visited.
Because of this I missed the July comp. There was no comp in June so the August comp kicked off with a bang. Below is the comp report from Lucian (check out some of his amazing photography and reflections at iamlucien.wordpress.com) ;
"Conditions for August were pretty similar to the month prior, a few feet of swell, a nice stiff offshore and fairly average but surfable banks. The City To Surf was on so finding a park was no mean feat and by the afternoon the beach was an extension of Martin Place at 8:45am, only without cheap suits. Like last month things kicked off at Tama but after a few of the keenest went chasing barrels at Mackenzies the exodus began and things were moved to K-Bay once again. Quality of surfing was dope. Northern Beaches blow-in Ewan Donnachie dominated, threading tube where for anyone else there was no tube to thread, stitching up combos and busting big. Honorable mention also goes to Reggie, who finally succumbed to his circadian rhythm after pulling an all-nighter and passed out just before the final."

TBC was held to day in clean 1 to 2ft beachies offering great competition waves. Here is the progressive points table after 2 rounds. Each rider gets point for every heat surfed so it pays to show up. Pretty tight up the top of the tables!
